Project Overview
Sometimes the most important work isn’t about making a statement—it’s about delivering critical function. For this project, we were brought in to install a secure chain link perimeter fence around a cell tower site in Zebulon, North Carolina, providing essential protection for sensitive telecommunications equipment.
The challenge wasn’t just the need for high security—it was the technical nature of the site. With utility infrastructure, tight working clearances, and uneven terrain, the project demanded precision, planning, and strict attention to safety standards from start to finish.
Site Prep and Layout
Our first step was to establish a secure layout around the tower base, equipment shelter, and service access points. Using survey tools and layout string, we carefully marked all post locations to avoid underground lines and maintain proper clearances.
We also cleared the perimeter of debris and ensured the site was accessible for equipment without disturbing the gravel pad or existing infrastructure.
Posts and Foundation
Security starts below ground. For this project, we used schedule 40 commercial-grade pipe sourced from Merchants Metals, known for its strength and durability in high-security fencing applications.
Each post was set over 2.5 feet deep in concrete, ensuring a solid anchor that can withstand wind load, fabric tension, and long-term wear.
Terminal, corner, and gate posts were reinforced for additional stability, designed to support the tension of stretched chain link and resist shifting over time. Proper spacing and alignment ensured structural integrity across the entire perimeter.
Chain Link Installation
Once the posts were fully set, we installed commercial-grade galvanized chain link fabric, stretching it with proper tension and anchoring it securely to maintain consistent height and appearance.
A heavy-duty double-swing gate and a personnel access gate were installed to allow controlled site entry. Tamper-resistant latches and industrial-grade hardware, including a multi-lock latch from Stymie Lock, were selected for enhanced security and weather resistance.
Functional Benefits
Security: The fence provides a critical barrier around sensitive telecom infrastructure, preventing unauthorized access and ensuring operational safety.
Durability: Galvanized steel materials and reinforced posts ensure long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.
Compliance: Built to meet utility and communications site standards for commercial fencing installations.
The Result
The finished fence is clean, precise, and built to perform in a high-security environment. It defines and protects the site while blending in with the surrounding utility-grade landscape.
This project showcases how careful planning and skilled execution deliver reliable results—especially when function is non-negotiable.
